On May 9th, ETN and GRaPA were proud to host 90 industry professionals including operators, research and academia, technology, service, and expertise providers, and the authorities at Energy Transition Norway / GRaPA's P&A seminar to discuss radical solutions for P&A (plug and abandonment) of oil and gas wells.
Six months into phase two of our Go Radical P&A project which aims to reduce the time, cost, and environmental footprint of P&A, the team wanted promote discussions around a risk-based approach to P&A, support for a feasibility study for small footprint surface units leading to full rigless operations, and a new strategy to explore and deliver new technical solutions.
Excellent presentations from DNV and NORCE Norwegian Research Centre provided more clarity on what industry risk-assessment criteria actually means, followed by a panel discussion with representatives from three major operating companies in Norway: Equinor, TotalEnergies , and Aker BP ASA, discussing how the GRaPA project can drive a step change in future P&A performance.
Petroleumstilsynet presented the Norwegian authorities' expectations around the implementation of new technologies, and Clearwell Technology Ltd showcased their radical solution that can significantly reduce the cost, time, and environmental footprint of P&A.
The event was an excellent opportunity for industry professionals to exchange ideas and explore potentially radical change in the way we go about P&A operations.
